OUR CLOSING NIGHT CELEBRATION LAUGHING MATTERS...MORE Thursday, September 28
8:00pm
Four outrageous lesbian comics hit the stage for a hilarious weeklong engagement in Long Beach, California. Award-winning director Andrea Meyerson captures their performances—and much more —in this entertaining follow-up to her acclaimed documentary, Laughing Matters
In LAUGHING MATTERS...MORE, the filmmaker presents another quartet of successful lesbian comics: Rene Hicks, the first African-American woman nominated for best female stand-up at the American Comedy Awards; Canadian-born Elvira Kurt, a Second City alum who’s been doing stand-up for more than 15 years; Sabrina Matthews, who launched her stand-up career in San Francisco and starred in her own Comedy Central special; and Vickie Shaw, a spunky Southern Baptist lesbian mom from Beaumont, Texas.
The docu-comedy features segments from very funny stand-up routines, intimate interviews and footage of backstage moments and frank conversations among the four women, who talk about their childhoods, their fascinating journeys to a stand-up career, how and when they came out on stage and their best and worst moments as a comic.
Director Andrea Meyerson will be in Kansas City for our screening to introduce her film and answer questions from the audience afterwards.
