Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Directed by John Cameron Mitchell

Rated R 95 mins (2000)

Based on his acclaimed off-Broadway play (which was performed at the Unicorn last year) of the same name, John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical starring Mitchell as Hedwig - born Hansel in East Germany - a drag queen traveling the U.S. with her band the "Angry Inch." While in Germany, Hansel falls in love with an American G.I. and, in order to marry him, has a sex-change operation (which goes badly). Left somewhere between male and female, "Hedwig" forms a rock band and tours the country. Described as Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Tommy, Hedwig and the Angry Inch took the Audience and the Director's Awards at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
