Why do we have to wait until January to see BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN in Kansas City?
Independent films -- unlike major studio releases -- traditionally open first in New York and LA, and then start showing across the country as word of mouth and interest grows. Building an audience is key to an independent film's success, unlike say HARRY POTTER which has a built-in audience and can open on thousands of screens in one weekend. BROKEBACK was fortunate to become enormously popular even before its opening. It became a hit with the critics, earning several key Best Film awards and now seven Golden Globes nominations. As of today, the opening date in Kansas City remains in January.

What if it snows on January 5th?
